As workers all over the world celebrates International
Workers’ Day, on May 1, the Tricycle Owners’ Association of Nigeria (TOAN),
Ogun State Chapter, an affiliate of TUC, joined their counterparts from other
sectors and professions to match before the executive governor of Ogun State,
Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, who stood several minutes to receive salutations from
workers in the formal and informal sectors of the state.
In his address to the teeming workers present at the MKO
Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, Amosun used the occasion to implore workers to
rededicate themselves to their duty and continue to support the efforts of his
administration towards rebuilding the Gateway state.
Governor Amosun also announced the pardon of three out of
remaining four workers earlier dismissed for alleged disregard of the civil
service rules. Also in his address at the May Day celebration, Ogun State
Chairman, Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, (TOAN) Comrade Tirimisiyu
Muraina, urged the governor to look into the various ills being perpetrated by
those in charge of the transport sector of Ogun State as he suggests the sector
needs proper monitoring for more revenue generation.
“Those serving as agent of the state government are the one
milking most resources in the sector, the governor needs to do an overhaul of
the transport sector for more revenue generation. The corruption in the Ogun state
transport sector is alarming that’s why the sector have a lot of litigations in
various courts within and outside the state.”
We need to support His Excellency Sen. Ibikunle Amosun in
his quest to rebuilding the Gateway state, so few people should not be seen
using the governor’s name in carrying out unlawful activities to destabilize
the transport sector that can serve as economic hub and revenue base of the
government they claim to be serving, when government needs money to fund
various developmental projects embarked upon across the state for collective
benefit.” Trimisiyu concluded.
