The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraju
Adekunbi, has refuted an allegation that members of the Assembly have been
collecting money from the Executive arm to support the massive road projects
across the state.
Adekunbi, refuted the allegation while featuring on a radio
programme in Abeokuta, and described it as “unfounded and untrue”.
‘’We never demanded or collected any money, as we all
believe that the roads are for the
benefit of our people and will outlive us”,
he pointed out.
According to him, lawmakers in the House of Assembly were
voted to represent the interest of people in their various constituencies
noting “the hallowed chamber remains committed to ensuring that funds are
appropriated accordingly to facilitate the execution of projects towards making
life more meaningful for the people of the state”.
Adekunbi, who said globally, governance has moved beyond
road construction as it was something that the nation should have done two
decades ago, however, expressed optimism that the ongoing road projects would
further propel the influx of industries to the state for more socio-economic
development.
The Speaker, therefore, enjoined the people of the state to
be patient with the contractors who have already moved to sites to continue work
on the roads.
