Women in Lagos State rose from a day symposium and concluded
that as the state celebrates her jubilee anniversary, more can still be done to
advance their course.
They particularly identified the girl child education as one
of the areas that still needed to be tackled. The symposium with the theme,
“The contribution of women to the development of Lagos in the past 50 years”
was organised by Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (CWLSO).
Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, while
addressing the gathering, recalled the immeasurable contributions of women to
the growth and development of the state in the past 50 years, charging them not
to rest on their oars.
She acknowledged the roles women had played in politics,
business, commerce and in other professions, noting that women in the state
would further strengthen the position of Lagos as Nigeria’s economic hub in the
next 50 years if given necessary impetus. “We wish to assure that the women of
Lagos State will not draw back. We are determined to do more to help the state
maintain its position in the federation as first among equals,” she said.
Deputy Governor of the state, Idiat Adebule, said the
jubilee anniversary presents an avenue for women to take stock and challenge
themselves to do more for the state.
