The Katsina State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress
(NLC) has showered praises on Governor Aminu Bello Masari over what it
described as prompt payment of salaries of civil servants in the state.
Speaking on Monday, at a rally to mark the 2017 May Day
celebrations, NLC Chairman in the state, Comrade Tanimu Lawal Saulawa, also
used the occasion to score the Bello Masari-led state government high for its
achievements in two years in office, noting that government has performed well
especially in the health and education sectors.
According to Saulawa, “the congress wishes to appreciate the
commitment, bold and courageous policies of His Excellency especially in the
prompt payment of salaries to workers and there is no doubt that the
administration’s approach to the general welfare of civil servants is
immeasurable and indeed commendable.
“We note with appreciation the payment of pension and other
retirement benefits to our senior citizens in the state and further wish to
intimate you that there are still more retirees who have not been paid in spite
of having been screened and verified.
“The delay in payment is inflicting more hardship on these
retired officers who put in their best in the development of our dear state.
“Without fear of contradiction, we must also here that the
government has done commendably well in both the education and health sectors
in the state. We are witnesses to the efforts of government at providing
conducive learning environment at all tiers of education in the state and the
state of the art rehabilitation and reconstruction of our primary and secondary
schools is indeed commendable.”
The Labour leader also reviewed some aspects of President
Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the past two years and commended Federal
Government’s TSA and whistle blowing policies.
As Salauwa put it, “as much as the President is making
concerted efforts at recovering stolen money, he is also placing measures to
expose looters and block ways through which money was embezzled, laundered and
stored in vaults or at graveyards.
“Indeed, cash recovered in various currencies within the
last one year as declared by President Buhari is well over half of the national
budget for this year.”
