The Federal Government has said the freed Chibok schoolgirls
would not return to their former schools in Chibok, Borno State.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Al-Hassan stated this while
formally receiving the girls from the director of the Department of State
Services (DSS) Medical Centre, Anne Okoroafor, at the National Women
Development Centre, Abuja, yesterday.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Federal Government also clarified that the rescued 106
Chibok schoolgirls were not under compulsion to remain within its care as any
of them who wished to join their parents was free to do so.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
No fewer than 219 girls were abducted from their school in
April 2014. While the government rescued 103, three others were said to have
escaped from Boko Haram captivity. At least 113 are still in the hands of the
terrorists.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Although, the rescued girls have met their parents under
strict government supervision, none of them has returned to live with their
parents in Chibok.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The 82 girls, while in the custody of the DSS underwent  several medical tests and treatment. Some of
the  them were said to have had bullet
and bomb fragments in their bodies and were made to undergo surgeries.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The girls were warmly received by their other 24
counterparts, who had been in the camp since they regained freedom October last
year.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Alhassan explained that the girls who would be camped till
September would undergo remedial preparation in five subjects – English
Language, Mathematics, Biology, Agricultural Science and Civic Education –
after which they would be enrolled in schools in other parts of the country.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The minister also said 20 teachers had been engaged for the
girls who would be grouped into four classes.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She reiterated the resolve of government to give the best
care to the girls through the Presidential Rehabilitation and Re-integration
Committee headed by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Alhassan further disclosed that a fully-equipped medical
facility has been set up at their camp with two doctors and two nurses, while
the National Hospital, Federal Staff Clinic and the DSS Medical Clinic, were
open to handle referral cases.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She added that an ambulance would be dedicated to the
facility for emergencies.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As part of the comprehensive rehabilitation package, the
minister disclosed that each of the girls would receive compulsory training in
information and communication technology as well as two other skills of their
choice.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Here, we have 24 girls; remember that these were rescued
last year. They are being joined today by 82 others, who have been certified
fit to live on their own; they don’t have any medical issues any more apart
from the one that we need to put a limb for. This place is their common room;
it will accommodate the 106 of them.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We have more handlers for the girls now; more doctors,
nurses and matrons. And the programme will end at the beginning of next
academic year in September when we will enrol all of them back to school,”
Alhassan stated.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She further explained that the 24 others had missed the
2016/2017 school year because by the time they were ascertained fit by the
experts, the academic year had gone far.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Shedding light on the condition of the 82 girls, Dr.
Okoroafor who took care of them in the last three weeks, confirmed that they
were fit for the programme.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We have done the needful for them, profiled them and done
all the investigations; whatever we found out during the investigation, we have
treated them. Some of them require ongoing medical treatment like you can see
one of them has problem with her hand; one is an amputee and one or two others
who have some medical issues that we are still treating them for. But I can say
to you that they are all stable and comfortable for us to release them. They
are stable not just medically but psychologically”.<o:p></o:p></div>

Representative of the Acting President, Mr. Nicholas
Audifferen assured that government would stop at nothing to ensure the girls
attained whatever heights they could.<o:p></o:p></div>

The United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) and United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which had been partnering the ministry, were
represented by Mr. Samuel Manyok (Child Development Specialist) and Mr. Eugene
Kongnyuy, respectively.<o:p></o:p></div>

Over 1,000 youths elders on Tuesday took to the streets in
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, to support the recent arrest and prosecution of
a former top official of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), George
Turnah.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The embattled legal practitioner was alleged by the youths
to have fraudulently enriched ‎himself while he served as Special Adviser to
two Managing Directors/Chief Executive Officers of the NDDC between 2012 and
2015.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The youths who carried placards with various inscriptions
commended the Economic and Financial Crimes ‎(EFCC) for his arrest.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The groups lamented that they were shocked to hear the
revelation of how he shortchanged them during the period.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
‎According to them, the painful part of the entire saga was
the Niger Delta Volunteer Program which was designed to empower 2,000 youths of
the region for four years with a monthly stipend of one hundred and fifty
thousand naira but he allegedly choose to pay them seventy thousand naira.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
They accused former President Goodluck Jonathan‎ of giving
Turnah the audacity to operate in an agency as sensitive as the NDDC without
being checkmated, leading to his involvement in the monumental fraud.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Their protest was coming on the heels of a similar
accusation leveled against Jonathan by ‎Chief Perekeme Richard Kpodoh, a
chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former security adviser to
the Bayelsa State Government.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Kpodoh who was also part of the protest had last weekend,
lampooned those who were celebrating what he described as six wasted years‎ of
the Jonathan presidency, saying it is insulting and smacks of ignorance.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The APC leader had maintained that Jonathan failed to
attract meaningful project to the region but watched with excitement as his
aides, mainly from Bayelsa fretted the nation’s commonwealth through dubious
and phantom projects.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
One of the leader of the protesters, Harold Zoukumor while
addressing the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Amba Asuqo said as concern
indigenes of the region they are completely in solidarity with the EFCC for
justice to prevail in the matter.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said ” We have seen and read in the media, the recent
arrest and detention of Mr. George Turnah. It is our desire that all said funds
recovered from him be returned to the youths of the region for further
development of their capacity as well as enhance the living standard of the
people.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“His action was a clear case of fraud which has impoverished
the ordinary people especially the youths more‎. So we insist that the loot
must be returned to either the NDDC or any agency to be disbursed to the youths
because it is our money and we appeal to you to use your good office to work in
line with our request.”<o:p></o:p></div>

In his response, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police
‎thanked them for the peaceful way they conducted themselves and assured them
that their letter will get to the right place.<o:p></o:p></div>

of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on a
12-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, money laundering and

Fayose, who addressed newsmen in Lagos, yesterday,  said being an avowed corruption fighter,
Buhari has a moral burden to save Nigeria from needless stagnation arising from

governor said fighting corruption is not limited to discovering large sums of
money but doing the right thing at the right time and opined that taking a bow
when necessary is an indication of being morally upright.<o:p></o:p></div>

Fayose appraised Buhari’s administration in two years and
said the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government has failed to deliver
on its promises.<o:p></o:p></div>

“So far, the APC-led federal government has been a
government of misadventure and Nigerians are worse for it. They say they are
fighting corruption but are shielding corrupt elements within their fold.<o:p></o:p></div>

“Members of the opposition defect to the APC for protection.
He can do us the great help by resigning. Not resigning bothers on his
integrity. His absence allows others to suppress and oppress others and that
means he is allowing others to suppress their fellow human beings. There are
many governments in one and they are clueless. We need an active president
going by our numerous challenges. How long will Nigerians wait for an
incapacitated president?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We cannot wait again for somebody to hold us to ransom. I
don’t have any bad blood against Buhari. Osinbajo has no powers without the
president. He owes us the duty to tell us the state of his health,” the
governor said.<o:p></o:p></div>

On the performance of the economy, Fayose said it had gone
from bad to worse and noted that the middle class has been wiped off.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“There is no middle class any more. Economic indicators are
not cheery. They borrow money on daily basis and commit funds that ought to
accrue to all tiers of government to servicing the loans,” he added.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On the much-touted rescue of Chibok girls from Boko Haram,
Fayose reiterated that the whole set-up was blackmail against former President
Goodluck Jonathan, and added that, one day, the true story will be revealed.<o:p></o:p></div>

On insecurity, the governor said more people have been
killed by insurgents and herdsmen than in any other period in Nigeria’s history
of Nigeria.<o:p></o:p></div>

The vexed issue of corruption amongst judicial officers once
again took the centre-stage at a thanksgiving service organised for the Chief
Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, at the Methodist Church,
Nigeria, Abuja Diocese. The occasion afforded the CJN an opportunity to bare
his mind on this matter that is questioning the integrity of the judiciary in
the country.  <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
To check the problem, he advised Nigerians to petition the
National Judicial Council (NJC) on the corruption and other unprofessional
conduct of judges. He also advised the people to take advantage of relevant
institutions and report all allegations of corrupt practices against judges,
instead of smearing the image of the judiciary with unsubstantiated allegations
in the mass media.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Averring that the judiciary was under threat, Onnoghen took
exception to the allegation made by Senator Uche Ekwunife that the judiciary
robbed her of her mandate. In a statement signed by his Senior Assistant on
Media, Awassam Bassey, he urged the senator to petition the judges she accused
of corruption and unprofessional conduct with necessary documents to support
her allegation, and forward them to the NJC. 
He said that employing such well-established institutions and avenues to
seek justice is in the best interest of the country and the government’s
ongoing war against corruption.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Taking the CJN’s advice will serve as a check on the
judiciary, which, even though seen as the bastion of democracy and the “last
hope of the common man”, has come under a blanket of suspicion bordering on
corruption and other unprofessional conduct. It cannot be gainsaid that public
confidence in the Nigerian judiciary is waning. There is need to clean up the
rot to restore the faith of the people in the judiciary.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Therefore, the advice of the CJN is in order. Nigerians
should cultivate the habit of reporting the improper conduct of judges to the
appropriate agencies, especially the NJC. This will help to reduce the
incidence of corruption in the judiciary. But, adequate sanctioning of erring
officials is very important. For emphasis, item 21 paragraph (b) of Part 1,
Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution says that the NJC should “recommend to
the President the removal from office of the judicial officers specified in sub-paragraph
(a) of this paragraph, and to exercise disciplinary control over such
officers.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sadly, notwithstanding this provision, it has been difficult
to rein in corruption in the judiciary, even though some judges, including a
Justice of the Supreme Court, are currently facing trial over allegations of
corruption. It does appear that the inadequate application of the
aforementioned item 21(b) of the first part of the Third Schedule is the reason
it has been difficult to rein in corruption in the judiciary.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This provision, which simply states that an erring judge
should be recommended to the President for removal from office, is not
far-reaching enough. Perhaps, the antidote against corruption on the Bench,
apart from the removal of erring judges from office, is to charge such judges
to court after their removal. They should be tried and, if found guilty,
incarcerated like common felons. This, we believe, will be a greater deterrent
to corruption on the bench.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We call for an amendment of this provision. If our democracy
is to survive, and justice dispensed without fear or favour, no judge should be
corrupt, because the judiciary is so important to democracy. People should be
free to approach the courts with confidence. Unfortunately, there have been reported
cases of some judicial officers hobnobbing with politicians. This can only
erode public confidence in the impartiality of the judiciary.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Like Caesar’s wife, judicial officers should live above
aboard. They should avoid acts that tend to drag their image and that of the
judiciary in the mud. We urge the NJC to treat petitions referred to it
expeditiously, and without fear or favour. The country needs a transparent
judiciary and honest judicial officers who can at all times inspire the
people’s confidence in all arms of the justice system.</div>

Senior Media and Political Officer of the Embassy of Israel,
in a statement in Abuja, Tony Obiechina said, Netanyahu will be on a one-day
visit to Liberia to attend the summit.<o:p></o:p></div>

Obiechina said that during the summit, Netanyahu is expected
to sign a joint declaration for greater cooperation with ECOWAS, the 15-state

improve ties with Africa under the slogan “Israel is coming back to Africa, and

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), on
Tuesday, said the Federal Government’s plan to concession the four major
airports in the country might not be feasible until 2019.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
General Secretary of NUATE, Mr. Olayinka Abioye, said in
Lagos that all thorny issues surrounding the concession must be addressed
before the exercise.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Federal Government had recently appointed transaction
advisers to midwife the concession of the Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt
airports.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Abioye, however, faulted the appointment of the transaction
advisers, noting that the aviation unions were not carried along before the
announcement was made.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“What happened is that the Minister of State for Aviation,
Sen. Hadi Sirika, unilaterally made the appointment without recourse to the
committee he set up for the same purpose, which had some of our members.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The committee is yet to submit its report; so, we were
surprised when the announcement was made,’’ he said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Abioye maintained that the concession of the airports would
lead to job losses for thousands of their members, hence the stiff opposition
from the unions.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Anytime there is a concession, people are bound to lose
their jobs.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“What the unions are saying is that there should be dialogue
between us and the government on how to protect the interest of these workers.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We believe that these issues must be addressed before the
concession; and from our projections, this could take even up to two years. So,
that should be sometime in 2019,’’ he said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Abioye noted that the plan by the government to set up
another national carrier would not work until it settled the N78 billion debt
owed workers of the defunct Nigerian Airways.<o:p></o:p></div>

“You cannot be talking of another national carrier when
workers of Nigerian Airways have not been settled.<o:p></o:p></div>

In a motion sponsored by Senator Sabo Mohammed and tagged
‘Non Transparent Transaction relating to the planned concession of the Port
Harcourt Refinery to AGIP and OANDO by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the

Accordingly, the Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to
carry a holistic investigation to determine how and why such a deal was sealed
and the criteria used to select AGIP and OANDO to maintain and operate the Port

Sen. Mohammed, in his motion, claimed that the Minister of
State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, had revealed that the agreement
was part of a broader government plan to increase capacity for local production

in Nigeria by 2019.<o:p></o:p></div>

without recourse to due process and described it as illegal and a clear attempt
at ridiculing Nigerians. He said the action would create a hole that will be
hard to fill in the anti-corruption crusade of the present administration.<o:p></o:p></div>

He said the action by Kachikwu, goes contrary to claims he
made in late 2015, when he declared the three refineries in the country,
namely, Warri, Kaduna and Port Harcourt would be working at 90 per cent
capacity, thereby reducing importation and subsidy controversies. The senator
wondered why in 2017, the refineries were yet to be fixed and cannot produce 50
per cent.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Senators Dino Melaye and Kabiru ‎Gaya, supported the motion
and called on the Senate to take a firm action. Melaye in his submissions, said
consession of government-owned companies, have always been mismanaged in the
past.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Gaya on his part, said in the absence of Kaduna and Warri
refineries which are currently dysfunctional, it will be unfair to sell off the
Port Harcourt refinery to investors.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But Kachikwu, in far away Vienna, Austria, said refineries
repair could not be done in an open bidding process. Speaking to newsmen,
Kachikwu said the refineries concession “is a highly technical area, what we
have done is to invite those who have experience in refining, but it is open,
anybody who feels he has the skills and has the money is welcome. It is not
just about the skills but the money too.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Remember, we do not have the money, and what we call them
in is to rebuild, help us manage and recoup their money from the incremental
production and that is ongoing, it has not been decided, the entire three
refineries are up on the refurbishing scheme.”<o:p></o:p></div>

Responding to the alleged bias in the selection process of
the AGIP and OANDO Plc as partners to operate the Port Harcourt Refinery and
Petrochemical Company, Kachikwu said final decision on the refineries has not been
reached.<o:p></o:p></div>

He said the Federal Government has decided to concession all
four refineries in the country by August this year saying, “We hope to award
the contracts by July/August and hopefully between 12 to 18 months to be able
to get the refineries fully back, and the model is to bring investors, who will
repair the refineries and they recoup their money from the incremental
production.<o:p></o:p></div>

“We are ready to offer all the three refineries for
investors who have money to repair and manage. People keep mentioning AGIP and
OANDO Plc but nobody has made the final decision on those, they are probably
the front runners because they put a lot of work on that but I am not in the
technical committee, I am the chair of the steering committee, when the
technical committee meet and finish their work, they will refer it to the
steering committee and then it goes to NNPC Board, so all the hullabaloo about
the transparency, there is no basis for that.”</div>

Attorney- General of the Federation (AGF) and the National
Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have agreed not to extradite Sen. Buruji
Kashamu to the United States until the determination of all court cases on the
matter.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Kashimu had gone to court to stop the two from extraditing
him to face trial in the US over alleged importation of hard drugs.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Counsels to the two indicated the new position in a court
process they filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Kashamu had gone to the court to seek their committal to
prison on the ground that they were planning to abduct and deport him to the
United States, contrary to the ruling of the court.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
However, at the resumed hearing of the matter on Tuesday,
Kashamu’s counsel,  Mr Akin Olujimi
(SAN), told Justice Gabriel Kolawale that the threat of his extradition was no
longer subsisting.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He therefore applied for leave to withdraw the suit against
the AGF and NDLEA in view of the assurances given.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The counsel told the judge that all parties will now face
the various cases pending at the Court of Appeal.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said these were appeals that emanated from the refusal of
the Federal High Courts to grant the extradition request.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Counsel to the AGF, Mr. Tanko Ashang, and that of the NDLEA,
Mr Mike Kassa did not object to the withdrawal of the case.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In his ruling, Justice Kolawale granted the leave sought for
the withdrawal of the suit to allow the parties pursue their cases at the
appellate court.<o:p></o:p></div>

“In the light of the application to withdraw this suit and
to move to Court of Appeal to pursue all pending appeals in respect of the
extradition matter, leave is hereby granted for withdrawal of this suit,’’

A Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, on Tuesday, has
adjourned till June 29, the hearing in a suit by Sterling Bank against a former
Aviation Minister, Sen. Stella Oduah, over alleged indebtedness.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The bank alleged that Oduah and her company, Sea Petroleum
and Gas company Ltd, were indebted to it in the sum of 16.4 million dollars and
N100.5 million.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The suit which was earlier adjourned for hearing of all
pending applications, was however adjourned to June 29, becaause the trial
judge, Justice Ayokunle Faji, was indisposed.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Counsels representing all the parties were present in court.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The suit was initially pending before Justice Abdulaziz Anka
of the same court, but was eventually, reassigned to Faji to begin afresh.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In March, Justice Anka had issued an order, restraining
Oduah and her companies, from making any withdrawal from its account and those
of three other companies domiciled with 21 banks in the country.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The other companies include: Sea Shipping Agency Ltd, Rotary
Engineering Services Ltd, and Tour Afrique Company Ltd.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The court had also, issued an order directing the said
commercial banks harbouring the assets of Oduah and the four companies to
sequestrate their indebtedness as at November 2016.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The court also ordered that the money be kept in an interest
yielding account in the name of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court,
pending the determination of the suit.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
An affidavit sworn to by a staff of Sterling Bank, Mr Segun
Akinsany, stated that on Oct. 8, 2012, the bank granted a lease/Cabotage Vessel
Finance Facility (CVFF) to Sea Petroleum and Gas Company.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said that the facility was in the said sums to finance
one unit 5,000 MT tanker vessel.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He averred that the loan was secured by an unconditional
personal guarantee of the companies’ director, Princess Stella Oduah.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Akinsanya also averred that same was supported by a
statement of her networth, legal mortgage of two properties worth N135 billion,
and a power of Attorney of the tanker vessel in favour of Sterling Bank.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He averred that, also in support was a fully executed
standing payment order and tripartite remittance agreement between it and
Oduah.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was further averred that on June 27, 2013, Sea Petroleum
Company requested and was granted additional facilities in the sum of about
450,000 dollars for post delivery expenses.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said that also granted was about 993, 000 dollars to meet
the requisite conditions in securing the release of the tanker.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Also, he averred that upon the persistent failure of the
defendants to liquidate their indebtedness, Sterling Bank instructed its
counsels to recover the debt.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said that in spite of several reminders, and demands, the
defendants had failed and refused to liquidate their indebtedness which had
culminated to 16.4 million dollars, and about N100.5 million as at November
2016.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He averred that there was imminent risk of the defendants
dissipating the assets of the companies, and had urged the court to issue a
restraining order.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Meanwhile, Oduah and her companies in its processes, had
urged the court to discharge the order made against them.<o:p></o:p></div>

They had also filed a preliminary objection to the suit,

38-year-old husband’s manhood while he was asleep early Saturday, after she
learned of his multiple infidelities, Narin said.<o:p></o:p></div>

Hospital staff in Phayao managed to retrieve Niran’s penis and
froze it with ice during the hospital transfer, according to Lampang hospital.<o:p></o:p></div>

There is anger at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa,
Lagos State, after the Presiding Chaplain, Venerable Femi Taiwo, was sacked by
the Governing Council allegedly on the order of the state Governor, Akinwunmi
Ambode.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
PUNCH Metro gathered that Taiwo got the sack on Monday, May
15, without any query or official reason stated in the sack letter.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He was said to have been ordered out of his official
quarters where he lived with his wife and two children within 24 hours of
receiving the letter.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Despite pleadings from church leaders and other reputable
elders in the church, the government was said to have insisted that the cleric
must leave the church.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some church members reportedly contributed money to buy gas
cooker, and other household items for the family as they vacated the vicarage.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Investigations showed that Taiwo had angered the Governor’s
wife, Bolanle Ambode, who had visited the chapel on Sunday, May 14, when the
church held an anointing service.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The church is under the Lagos State Ministry of Home
Affairs, while the Office of the Lagos State First Lady supervises church.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Church members were said to have filed out to receive
anointing oil during the May 14 service without any preference given to
Bolanle, who waited endlessly with her entourage.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She was said to have later moved to be anointed and moments
later, stormed out of the church, as some of the women leaders ran after her.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Bolanle, who was reported to be visibly angry, allegedly
shunned entreaties from the women, which included the wife of the presiding
chaplain.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The cleric got the sack the following day.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The directive was issued in a letter dated, May 15, 2017,
and signed by the Chairman, Governing Council of CCTL, Mr. Olugbenga Solomon.
The letter also ordered the Assistant Chaplain, Very Rev. Ayo Oyadotun, to take
over with immediate effect.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A church member, who witnessed the drama and begged not to
be identified, said , “The church had declared seven-day fasting after we lost
two prominent members.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The Sunday service, which was declared as anointing
service, was supposed to end the fasting.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The First Lady, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, was present with her
entourage. She comes to the church once in a while.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“When it was time to be anointed, the cleric asked people to
come forward, adding that it was optional. Three people stood at the stage to
anoint people. They included the chaplain, the presiding chaplain and one other
person.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“People started stepping out one after another. The
governor’s wife, after some time, also stepped out and was anointed.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The source said within a few minutes of taking the oil,
Bolanle, who felt disrespected, stepped out with her entourage.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Another member of the church said,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“As she stepped out, it was obvious that she was angry.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The president of the women’s fellowship and the pastor’s
wife ran after her. She shunned them, entered her car and zoomed off.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“When we came to the church on Tuesday, we heard that
Venerable Taiwo had been sacked. We were told that he was sacked because the
the governor’s wife didn’t get the anointing oil first and she felt
disrespected.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The man that signed the letter is also a civil servant,”
the source said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The governing council is said to be made up of members of
the church and some appointees of the government.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
PUNCH Metro learnt that Taiwo still had two years to spend
as the presiding chaplain when he was fired.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The source said some church members quickly bought household
items for his family as they vacated the church premises on Thursday.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said, “The children went to school on Thursday without
knowing that they would not be staying in the vicarage that evening. Church
members bought bed and other household items for them because they did not have
their own property.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The members said their pastor did not offend them, and
protested the sacking. The governing council members, however, said they should
forget it because whatever came from Alausa was final. Most of the church
members are civil servants who can’t talk too much.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Our correspondent reached out to leaders of the church,
including Oyadotun, who refused to comment.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
However, one of those that confirmed the incident, begged
not to be named.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said the reason Taiwo got the sack was not stated in the
letter, adding that the action was not unconnected from the visit of the wife
of the governor.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said, “Let me be straight with you, in the letter there
was no reason for the sack. Whatever you are hearing are what members of the
church believed could have happened. And there was indeed a protest by the
church and the governing council assuaged them on the sacking.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“There was nothing official in that sacking. No
investigation, no query, nothing. We had an anointing service on that Sunday.
The following day, the venerable was served the sack letter.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When PUNCH Metro reached out to Taiwo, he said he did not
want to comment.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He said, “If you have any enquiry, direct it to the church.
But one thing I can say is that I have tried as a pastor to live above board.
It will not be right engaging the church or the government on the pages of a
newspaper.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve
Ayorinde, said,<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The former chaplain had been queried a number of times in
the past for conducts unbecoming of his office. The culmination of various
indiscretions led to the Governing Council of the church issuing yet another
query that led to his being relieved of his post.<o:p></o:p></div>

“This has got nothing to do with the First Lady. The
Chaplain is looking for an excuse to cover his insouciance. It’s nothing but

Former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has, listed
way the country could diversify its economy to come out of recession.  He listed tourism as one of the sectors that
could be a boast to the economy, citing the Gambia, as one country that
survives on it.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It has been two years since the All Progressives Congress
(APC) came into power, how would assess the present administration in terms of
governance?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We have experienced both the good and the bad. Overall, the
APC administration, honestly, has also done fairly well in terms of where they
want us and the country to be. The APC came into power on the premise of
fighting corruption; premise of diversifying the economy. It came on the
premise of trying to build a New Nigeria, which has always been what every
administration will say. Yes! There has been some improvement in terms of
addressing the security challenges in the North East and partially the Niger
Delta.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But we are not yet there! And the most difficult thing or
challenge has been the economy. Again, gradually, we are making some progress.
Government needs to go into massive investments on roads and infrastructure;
which is what the APC government is doing now. So, I am hoping that gradually,
slowly but steady, we will be easing out of recession. Recession does just go
in one day. It’s funny when I hear people say we will ease out of recession in
three months. It’s what takes couple of years and gradually, we will see the
gains. Both the World Bank and the IMF are seeing that we are gradually going
to ease off.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I used to be a good advocate of devaluation the naira to get
it right, but today, I think the Western countries cannot continue to ask us to
devalue the naira because we have a mono- economy. We have a single product we
are selling to them, so at every time, the naira is on the receiving side. In
the last 20 years, I have never heard the dollar being devalued; I have never
heard the British pound being devalued. Something is wrong somewhere, something
is wrong for Africa.  The only currencies
being devalued are mostly African countries. What parameters do they use to
market this stability of our currencies?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The government, on the other hand, needs to do something
about the issue of rule of law. Obeying court ruling or order will go a long in
deepening our democracy. If the court says you should release Sambo  Dasuki, you must release him!  It’s the order of the court and that’s the
beauty of democracy. For example if the say you must detain Orji Uzor Kalu, you
must detain me, because that is what the court says. The people are only seeing
the hardware of democracy we have not been able to build the software. The
software of democracy is respect to our human rights, court orders<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
 As an entrepreneur of
note, what quick major steps do you think government ought to take in the short
term to address key economy challenges?  <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
China for example, 30 to 40 years ago, started by first
producing enough food for people to eat. We should look for a strategy, go into
massive food production, then after feeding ourselves, the second thing will be
to export.  And we have the
capacity!  The government should go to
places like Aba, Onisha and Abeokuta where people are conversant with
technology and invest.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There are many technologies we are importing that we don’t
need; we can manufacture them here. As a governors, I continued to encourage ex
president Obasanjo to invest and return back all those engineers that fought in
Biafra to the Kaduna defence corporation to start manufacturing equipment and
arms for exports. These are things that we can use to come out of recession; we
don’t need to believe in oil. This country is enormously very rich such that we
don’t need the crude oil. The country can make money if there is stability and
security. If people can move from Sahara desert to Atlantic Ocean without
anybody molesting them, people will like to come from Sweden, U.S, everywhere
to invest.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Tourism can bring in $100 billion investment every year in
Nigeria. Go to small countries like Gambia they don’t have any other thing than
tourism because there is stability. The hospitality industry in Gambia has
already employed almost everybody there. I am telling that hospitality industry
alone can employ 20-25% of our young people leaving schools but the issues is
that there is no security you go to the east, they are telling you about
kidnapping, about the Niger Delta Militant. A country cannot leave this way,
the president should do more.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The greatest disservice that has being done to this economy
is by not giving us electricity. Electricity is a big setback and there is
nothing we can do to develop without electricity.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
 Talking about
electricity, the Obasanjo administration pumped huge amounts of money into the
power sector yet nothing came out of it. Then there was  the call for privatisation. Today, we have
more darkness than we experienced in the past?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
To be honest with you, the privatisation of the power sector
was not the right thing to do. I had suggested that major corporations should
take over our electricity. If you want to help Nigerians, bring a company like
General Electric and tell them that you will own 55 per cent and others can own
45 per cent. So all these DisCos and GenCos will be part of the process. If I
were to make that decision, federal government at all time will retain 25
percent on all the generating set. The Nigerian populace will invest 30 percent,
the foreign companies will invest the rest and they will be able to manage and
run it.<o:p></o:p></div>

Recently, you joined APC and the fortunes of the party in
South East seem to be changing rapidly. What is the secret?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The secret is that some of our religious leaders who have
been preaching against APC as Islamic party have stopped. I joined the party on
16th of November, 2016, but my brother has been with the APC and they fought
alongside with Buhari but I remained in PPA. 
I have been in opposition for 10 years and there is no other Nigerian
politician that has been in opposition for 10 years as I did. I have just
changed party for the first time. I had been in PPA and remained  in PPA. To sit where other Nigerians are seated,
is the reason I left; otherwise I wouldn’t have left and I had no reason to
leave.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As a former governor of Abia State, you  reportedly put the state on a sound footing
and rapid growth. From the time you left office till date, do you think
successive governments have kept to the pace?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The man I left office for did not do the thing he was
supposed to do. And it’s also the press that promoted them and wrote things
that were not true about them. If the man I handed over to followed the policy
we had, not abandoning what we were doing we would not be where we are today.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I don’t want to criticise the present governor because I
have not really assessed him. And I have not been to Abia to see what he is
doing, but I want him to buckle up.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
You have contested for the nation’s presidency in the past.
Are you still nursing that ambition?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I contested for president in 2007 and I came 3rd and I had
5.8 million votes. And this shows that I am a marketable candidate anytime and
in any election.<o:p></o:p></div>

I am very prepared for the job. My political exposure has
equipped me for any elective post in the country, including the highest office
of the land. Let me tell you, I can manage the economy very well and even do
better in the area of security. Mind you, I was a governor at a very young age.
If there is a chance for me to be president of Nigeria, I will make a good
president. If Goodluck Jonathan could become President, I will make a better
president.</div>

APC: Two years after

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),
Prof. Pat Utomi, may have rightly assessed his party recently when he launched
a spiral attack on it, describing the ruling party as a failure, which requires
total reformation.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Similarly, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
had equally described APC as an embodiment of deceit and impostor, stressing
that the party was now synonymous with failed election campaign promises,
serial lies, incompetent economic managers, selective anti-corruption fighter,
architect of excruciating hardship and policy summersault.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
According to Utomi; “I’m a member of the APC; I’m one of the
real founding members of the APC. It’s not been what we thought it would be;
let’s be very honest, the party has under-performed, the party’s structure has
been poor. But we shall reform it from within by God’s grace and make it work
better. We have to wish on God’s grace and hope that things work differently.
Anything that works, that will make a difference, I will do,” he said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The duo may have spoken the minds of many Nigerians. Yet, in
the considerations of many, the assessment may be far from the realities. This
is so because internal wrangling, financial crisis, loss of confidence, lack of
input in governance, clash of inordinate interests by the party members among
many others have contributed in reducing the ruling party to a shadow of
itself.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Individually and collectively, opinions and perceptions may
vary in assessing the party which made a triumphant entry into the Nigeria
political landscape with a bang, but the events of the last two years seem to
have incontrovertibly confirm that the APC may have after all become a party
built on faulty structures by a largely assemblage of strange bird political
fellows.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The harsh economic and socio-political realities currently
engulfing the country, alleged biased appointments into federal government
vacant positions, failed election campaign promises and many more were enough
indices to prove that the ruling party may have only prepared for the election
victory not governance and power.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Like tsunami, APC, a product of merger of hitherto strong
opposition parties, triumphantly gained wide acceptability from Nigerians with
some promises of Eldorado after suffering series of disappointments and
impunity of the then ruling party, the PDP.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Riding on the crest of that wide acceptability, the ruling
party had in its mission statements, encapsulated in the 81 election campaign
promises, told many Nigerians exactly the gospel they want to hear, which
matched the aspirations of many citizens and non-citizens alike.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
With strong foundation laid on the change mantra, the APC’s
well-articulated election campaign promises were mouth-watering and attractive.
From provisions of basic amenities to solving the teething intractable problems
in the oil and gas sector, healthcare, employment, social and physical
security, corruption, restructuring to true federalism, ethnic consciousness,
among many others, the APC won the 2015 general elections through strong
political gospel.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Aligning with the change mantra, APC had told its apostles
that it has the magic wand to exterminate corruption in Nigeria, convincing
them that the only reason there was huge unemployment, persistent epileptic
power supply, hardship, crimes and criminalities was because the past
administration was clueless.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The party promised that if elected, it would turn “stone
into bread,” make light shine across the country, make water run on dried taps,
provide three millions jobs annually, give the 25 million unemployed youths
N5000 monthly stipends, increase the allowances of serving corps members and
provide allowances to the discharged but unemployed corps members for one year
while in the skills and entrepreneurial development programme.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The party promised to ensure that the exchange rate remains
at one dollar to one naira, rescue Chibok School girls within six months, end
Boko Haram madness within three months, ban all government officials from
seeking medical care abroad, build an airport in Ekiti state and ensure state
and community policing.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It further mesmerized Nigerians with sweet promises that
pump price of fuel would be reduced to N40 per litre, that Nigerian school
children would be fed once every school day, that workers and pensioners would
receive their pay on or before 25th of every month and above all, that the
cankerworm called corruption would be fought to a standstill among other
promises.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Not done, the party promised to balance the economy across
regions by creating six new Regional Economic Development Agencies (REDAs) to
act as champions of sub-regional competitiveness. It also promised to put in
place a N300 billion regional growth fund (average of N50 billion in each
geo-political region) to be managed by the REDAs and construct 3,000km of
superhighway including service trunks.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The party told Nigerians that it would ensure that at least
one functioning airport was available in each of the 36 states and ultimately
amend the Constitution to remove immunity from prosecution for elected officers
in criminal case.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Interestingly, in every facet of the economic, social and
economic lives, positive and negative changes have been very visible on the
faces and actions of Nigerians.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
However, the questions begging for answers are whether the
change mantra has in anyway reflected in the fortunes, modus operandi, actions
and inactions of the ruling party, and whether the party made any visible input
in the policies and programmes of the federal government it begets through dint
of hard work and effective manipulation of “seen and unseen forces.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
For those that may argue in the contrary, sacred
incontrovertible facts are on ground to show that the President Muhammadu
Buhari-led federal government did not only abandon and forgot the layer (APC)
of the golden egg but also left it in the cold in the scheme of things, thus
making it difficult for the ruling party to push for the actualisation of the
laudable party manifesto, programmes and campaign promises, made to Nigerians
during the electioneering.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Daily Sun’s investigations revealed that the party almost
crumbled under the heavy yoke of financial crisis, internal wrangling for
leadership supremacy, and inordinate ambitions by members, treachery and lack
of confidence on the national leadership among many others.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Under the watch of the APC government, herdsmen attacks have
become almost a regular occurrence, electricity supply has worsened, businesses
and industries have collapsed, and FOREX crisis has almost become insoluble. In
fact, while it has been deluge of woes and lamentations, the ruling party has
continued with the blame game of putting every problem on the doorstep of the
immediate past administration.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Multiple crises <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The crack resulting from the crisis rocking the APC, which
started during the selection of the leadership of National Assembly, widened
after the conduct of the party primaries to pick the party flag bearers in the
Edo and Ondo states governorship elections. Clash of interests, shenanigan, and
treachery, horse-trading and primordial sentiments eclipsed and relegated
collective interest and internal democracy to the background.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In the last two years, the APC failed in the conduct of
party primaries in the states. The inability to manage the ill feelings, the
rancour and misgivings of the chieftains of the party after the party primaries
was the party’s greatest undoing.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Rightly or wrongly, the party’s national leadership stepped
on many toes in the management of the controversies. The leadership was
blackmailed and accused of compromising their integrity. Their decision did not
only widen the divide in the party but also pitched them against many APC
leaders with entrenched interest.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The National Working Committee (NWC) could not come out
unscratched from the conduct of the Ondo state governorship primary, which
resulted in the party’s national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu taking the
national chairman to the party, Chief Odigie-Oyegun to the cleaners.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Financial crisis<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Speaking to newsmen recently after the meeting between the
NWC and the Progressives Governors’ Forum, the governor of Kaduna state, Mallam
Nasir El-Rufai, had admitted that stakeholders actually starved the party of
funds.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Daily Sun gathered that for two years, APC operated as a
party collapsing under heavy financial weight without any workable means of
generating funds to oil the party machinery.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The financial crunch became more worrisome when the Abuja
Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) disconnected the party secretariat over
unpaid bills running into millions of naira, thus paralysing its activities.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It took the intervention of members of  staff to raise little amount of money to fix
the faulty standby generating set to supply power to the headquarters of the
ruling party to avoid further embarrassment.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Delayed convention<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Although oblivious of the consequences of not organising a
mid-term convention, the ruling party seems to be very helpless in bringing
stakeholders to the convention to evaluate to performance of the party. Lack of
funds and the recurring health challenges of President Buhari and internal
wrangling have combined to make the party’s convention an impossible task.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
APC can still hold its head high<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Despite the odds against the party, it would however be a
great disservice to dismiss the party and its government as a complete failure,
considering the achievements it has recorded in the past two years in some
areas.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Although APC as a party may have failed in its inability to
resolve crisis rocking the party in every part of the country, the intense war
against corruption which yielded positive results, is worthy of a pass mark,
some analysts say.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Listing the achievements so far recorded under the current
administration, the party’s national scribe, Mai Mala Buni, recently argued
that the nation was well on the path to quick economic recovery.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has embarked
on well- thought out economic agenda, policy actions, appropriate fiscal
governance, and socio-political reforms to revamp the economy and tackle the
nation’s current challenges in the short to long term.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Under the new flexible foreign exchange policy introduced
by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), we now have a single market-determined
exchange rate which enables suppliers of foreign currencies to bring in their
money and take the same out at market-determined rates.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The President Buhari-led administration is aggressively
formulating and implementing policies aimed at diversifying Nigeria’s economy
from oil to other sectors such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

during the visits are positively impacting on key sectors of the Nigerian
economy including power, solid minerals, agriculture, housing and rail
transportation.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The fight against corruption remains a top priority for the
President Buhari APC-led administration. In spite of desperate attempts by some
partisans to discredit anti-corruption efforts in some quarters, the war
against corruption is being won and has been well-received and supported. The
generality of Nigerians agree that the days of impunity are over.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Through the full implementation of the Treasury Single
Account (TSA) by the President Buhari APC-led administration, revenue leakages
have been greatly plugged.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“The new petroleum products supply and pricing framework
which eliminated corruption-tainted subsidy payments has among others greatly
solved fuel scarcity by ensuring availability of the products at all locations
in the country.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“It has reduced hoarding, smuggling and diversion
substantially and stabilise price at the actual product price; encouraged
investments in both Refineries and Retails; provided government more revenue to
address social and infrastructural needs of the country.<o:p></o:p></div>

“In line with the critical infrastructural focus of the
President Buhari administration, an unprecedented over 30 percent of 2017
