THE Trade Union Congress (TUC) has
tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to revatilise the nation’s health
institutions to check incessant medical tourism by top government officials and
loss of foreign exchange.
While welcoming the President back to the country from his medical
vacation abroad, TUC said government should as a matter of urgency concentrate
efforts at rejuvenating the nation’s public health sector.
In a statement by its President, Bobboi Bala Kaigama, TUC said: “While
we appreciate your team of doctors and the hospital where you were treated for
their expertise, it is important to say that we should redirect our energy to
revitalise our health institutions in order that public officials could be
medically taken care of in the country.”
He noted that it has been proved that Africa is capable of taking care
of their presidents, as exemplified by Nelson Mandela, former president of
South Africa.
Kaigama said TUC wished the President quick recovery and strength to be
able to cope with the demands of his office.
He, however, commended the president for directing that the Acting
President Yemi Osinbajo continue his good works while he takes a deserved rest
for accelerated recuperation.
