Ex-basketball star petitions Lagos CP over assault by OPIC

Former Nigerian basketball international, Franca Uyigue
Nkwoji, has been distraught over what she has described as unfair victimization
and a threat to her life by the management of the Ogun State Property and
Investment Corporation, OPIC Plaza, located in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
The former national women’s basketball player, who was also
a key player of the First Bank Elephant Girls, now into educational consultancy
services, claimed that the ill treatment she suffered in the hands of the OPIC
management has caused her to lose huge sums of money due to the unwarranted
closure of her restaurant business also located at the plaza.
In a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr.
Fatai Owoseni, dated February 28, 2017, and signed by George M. Oguntade (SAN)
and Adetayo Afolabi, her lawyers, it stated that Mrs. Nkwoji was being haunted
for allegedly refusing a partnership proposal for the establishment of a
restaurant business with the OPIC Plaza Director of Billing.
Mrs. Nkwoji wants the police to step in and deal with the
OPIC staff and the alleged thug brought to harass her.
The petition read in part: “Early in 2016, Mrs. Nkwoji
rented another suite, which she intended to use as a restaurant and, upon being
advised of the costs, she duly made payment as advised and commenced her
business, after spending substantial sums of money renovating the space.
However, when Managing Director of OPIC, Jide Odusolu was
contacted, he referred us to a certain Mr. Awopeju who said the tenant moved
into the disputed suite at the plaza without approval from the management.
