…Widow who lost only son in Abuja school laments<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In these climes, the first day of the month is one day that
friends and family members usually call one another and exchange text messages.
They congratulate one another on witnessing the end of the passing month and
wish one other a happy new month.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But for Mariam Nnenna Ogbe, Wednesday, March 1, was not a good
day. It was a tragic day – a day of tears and anguish. It was the day the
widow, who lost her husband 12 years ago, lost her only son.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A few minutes after 2pm on that fateful day, her phone rang.
It was a distress call from ASACS International Staff School, Bwari, Abuja. Her
son, Michael Ogbe, was an SS3 student at the school. Immediately she picked the
call, the voice from the other end informed her about the sudden misfortune
that had visited her son, and which resulted in the lad’s premature death.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She quickly abandoned what she was doing where she worked
and rushed to the school to know what could have happened.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
ASACS, a school that serves as staff school for Dorben
Polytechnic, is located directly behind First Bank and also shares a fence wall
with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Bwari, Abuja.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The school is owned by the founder of Dorben Polytechnic,
Dr. A.B Ekwere. The school runs day and boarding services, and has students
from different parts of the federal capital.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
March 1<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On that fateful day, the late 16-year-old Michael, who was
the only son of his parents, was engaged in sporting activities along with
other students in the school premises when the sad incident occurred.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Investigations by the reporter confirmed that Michael had
earlier in the morning complained to the school authorities, precisely the
school clinic, that he wasn’t strong enough to engage in sporting activities.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was gathered that the school has not had a sports master
for quite a long time. It was also gathered that, though the school has a
clinic, the facility wasn’t equipped to cater to the medical needs of hundreds
of students attending the school.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A student that pleaded anonymity said the school clinic had
no qualified doctors and nurses to attend to the medical needs of students,
even on a sports day.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Another student asserted that Michael had earlier in the
morning complained of ill health.“He visited the school clinic in the morning,
but a nurse on duty asked him to take his breakfast first and then return for
medication.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Michael, after the meal, felt a bit stronger and
immediately joined his friends on the pitch. I assumed that he totally forgot
that he had earlier requested for medical attention, and the nurse that he
spoke with probably forgot to remind him of the need for his medication.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We were surprised when he joined us in the game. We asked
him not to participate in the sporting activities since he was complaining
about his health. But he insisted and told us that he was fine and would visit
the school clinic after the sporting activities. And we all agreed.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“His love for the Yellow House where he belongs made him to
participate in the sporting activities. He choose high jump, probably because
of his height.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“When he jumped, we thought all was well. A mattress had
been provided at the other end of the pitch, but Michael, probably due to his
height, jumped and landed on his back beyond where the foam was. He landed on
the bare floor and fainted instantly. That was the beginning of the tragedy. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“He was rushed to the school clinic, which was obviously
ill-equipped. The medical personnel there tried all they could to revive him,
but all was to no avail. When it became obvious that they were fast losing the
battle, they rushed him to the nearby Bwari General Hospital where the doctors
and nurses also battled until he gave up the ghost.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At Bwari General Hospital <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Osayende Osagie said
he was around when the late Michael was brought to the hospital, informing that
he mobilised all the doctors to save the life of the student. He said the
medical team tried, regretting that Michael could not be saved.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He, however, refused to release the medical records of the
late Michael. He said the request must be put in writing and passed through
appropriate channels, including the Federal Capital territory (FCT) Hospitals
Management Board before such records could be released to anyone.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At the home of the Ogbes<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As the news of Michael’s sudden death filtered in, the
entire neighbourhood became disorganised. Shock, disbelief and confusion
pervaded the air. Friends, family members and neighbours rushed from far and
near to the home of the Ogbes to get the true picture of the story.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The reporter was one of the early callers. It was indeed a
harvest of tears. While some neighbours congregated inside the house to console
with the wailing mother, some others were standing in pairs by the wall and
under the tree, discussing the ugly development.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some blamed Michael’s death on the school management who
they said exhibited a careless attitude towards the lives of their students.
But others heaped the blame on the Ministries of Education and Health for not
regularly carrying out their supervisory roles on schools.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Michael’s mother was grief-stricken. She told the reporter
that the school should be held responsible for the death of her son. She
accused the school management of ineptitude and carelessness in handling the
affairs of the students.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“I am a widow. In fact my husband died 12 years ago, and I
had invested all the resources I had in my children. As a matter of fact, I
have secured university admission for Michael at Kwantlen Polytechnic
University in Canada and all documentations have been processed. Now, I have
lost him due to the carelessness of ASACS school management.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“He was a great and young bright mind that took interest in
software engineering and cyber security. He achieved what people at his age
couldn’t achieve. We had great plans for him to get better and quality
education abroad to support his IT plans. But all that has gone with the wind.
I will greatly miss him,” she said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
She said the relevant authorities should charge the school
management for manslaughter. She also accused the federal Ministries of
Education and Health of failing in their responsibilities to properly supervise
the schools to regularly keep them in check on how they run their schools.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
School keeps mum<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Meanwhile, the school authorities are keeping mum on the
matter. Attempts by the reporter to speak with the principal, general manager
and proprietor of the school were unsuccessful.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The school principal wasn’t on seat when the reporter
called, but the general manager declined comments. He said the proprietor had
not authorised him to speak with journalists on the issue.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">

move to Manchester City from Palmeiras, the Premier League club announced on
Thursday.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
City agreed to sign Jesus on a five-year contract in August,
but the 19-year-old was immediately loaned back to Palmeiras until the end of
the Brazilian season in December.<o:p></o:p></div>

With City having now completed his registration, he could
make his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in Saturday’s home game with high-flying
Tottenham Hotspur.“I want to win titles and Manchester City is a club that is
used to winning,” Jesus said in comments published on the City website.“City is
a club that always competes for the title in the competitions it enters, so
that was an important factor, and because of the manager, Guardiola, and the
squad.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Jesus, who can play right across the front line, is one of
the most highly rated youngsters in world football and is reported to have cost
City an initial fee of £27 million ($33.3 million, 31.2 million euros).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He helped Palmeiras to their first league title in 22 years
last year and has scored scored five goals in his first six games for Brazil.“Gabriel
is a technically gifted player who was chased by some of Europe’s biggest clubs
and we are delighted he decided to join City,” said City’s director of football
Txiki Begiristain.“He has the potential to become one of the best attacking
players in the game and we look forward to watching him develop further here in
Manchester.“I think with Pep Guardiola as manager and the squad we already have
here, Jesus has the perfect platform to reach his full potential.”<o:p></o:p></div>

Jesus’s arrival is a timely lift for Guardiola, who finds
himself under intense scrutiny after last weekend’s chastening 4-0 defeat at

IBB disagrees with Obasanjo, says pdp remains the biggest
party in Africa, won’t die<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd)
on Saturday in Minna, said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the
strongest party in Africa, adding that the current crisis is a test for the
party.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Babangida is optimistic that PDP would overcome its crisis
and come out of it stronger.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The former president’s position contrasts with the
submission by former president Olusegun Obasanjo that the party on which
platform he ruled the nation for eight years was dead.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Babangida spoke at his Hilltop home when the Professor Jerry
Gana-led Committee on Strategy and Inter-Party Affairs came to brief him as one
of the founding fathers of the PDP on the committee’s findings.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
According to him, “the PDP remains the only acceptable party
to Nigerians at all levels regardless of religious or tribal affiliations. It’s
the most acceptable party to the people.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“I believe when the party overcomes this challenge, it has
the capacity to rule the country for the next 60 years,” Babangida stressed,
adding that the PDP had been accepted from the top to bottom because its
presence had been felt and accepted by the people for 16 years.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“From formation stage, I saw the PDP as IRA (Irish
Republican Army). We are the military wing of the PDP.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“We took a lot of interest, when I say we, I mean my boss
T.Y. Danjuma, Obasanjo, myself, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed. We started it.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“I termed us the IRA military wing of the PDP, I thank God
we came up with the old concept. I believe one of our compatriots who said PDP
would rule for 60 years. He, however, urged the party to work harder if it must
take the power back from the ruling party because nothing good comes easy.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“But you still need to work very hard to get to the top
again. I am happy that you people are trying to put the PDP back together
again, and I still believe that two-party system is the right choice for
Nigeria because it gives room for choice.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Addressing journalists after the meeting that lasted over an
hour, Chairman of the committee, Prof. Gana said the All Progressives Congress
(APC) had failed Nigeria.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
According to Gana, governance was all about the security and
welfare of the people. “But as things are now, Nigerians are suffering. They
cannot feel the impact of the government. There is hunger everywhere in the land.  “APC as a party over promised Nigerians and
now they cannot fulfill their promises. They have failed Nigerians.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
While praying for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu
Buhari, who has just returned from a medical trip to London, he said he would not
want to say much, adding that “if not for the president’s health, I would have
really punched them, but I do not want to punch them hard now, but the truth of
the matter is that the APC has failed the people completely.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
He was accompanied to the Hilltop residence of Babangida by
Chief Tom Ikimi, former deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Chief Emeka
Ihedioha, Prof. Ahmed Rufai Alkali, former minister of education, Prof. Tunde
Adeniran, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, while the entire PDP exco members in Niger
State led by its Chairman, Mr. Tanko Beji were present.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
I can never date anyone to get movie roles –Bamidele Adunke
(G-money)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Fast rising actress, Bamidele Adunke popularly known as
G-money, is no doubt beautiful and talented. The single mother of one believes
it is much easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a
lady to get movie role in Nollywood. Here, she shares with Entertainer her
experiences, and also talks about how she finally found love after waiting for
some years. Adunke equally opens up on her new movie entitled, Osan
(Afternoon), which she says has been widely accepted by movie buffs. Enjoy it. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What is G-money doing lately?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have a new movie in the market entitled, Osan (Afternoon).
I, Bamidele Adunke aka G-money, wrote it and I used the production name for my
son, Ibikunle Ibijuwwon Abiodun. The movie stars Ibrahim Chettah, Bamidele Adunke,
Yinka Quadri, Tope Osoba, Jamiu Azeez, Dipo Olajide and many more. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What is the acceptance of your new movie in the market?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The acceptance has been great and people have been saying a
lot of positive things about it.  <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
For how long have you been in the movie industry?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
For over eight years now. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What have been the challenges you have faced?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There are many challenges in the movie industry but the
biggest of all is that of piracy. Secondly, there is a lot of politics going on
in the industry. You have to know people before you are called up for jobs. So
you have to mix with certain kind of people to get called for jobs. But I don’t
know how to do stuff like that; I wait until I am called. And I’m not going to
date anyone to get jobs either. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Are you saying it is much easier to get roles when you date
someone?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Well, to an extent. I think it will be easier for you if you
date some notable people. However, dating is not by force, they don’t force
people. If someone asks you out, I think you have a choice to either say ‘yes
or no’ to the person. Really, if we must tell the truth, if you are dating
someone and that person has jobs, he will automatically call you for jobs. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Is it true that producers have to sleep with marketers in
order to get their works out into the market?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I can’t say. But like I said earlier, it takes two to
mingle. Obviously, if you are dating that person, you will sleep with that
person. So, I don’t know if they are sleeping with each other because of the
jobs involved and all that. I really don’t want to get into that because I
don’t know the details. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Aside from piracy, what are the other challenges? Have you
been sexually harassed?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
No. I have never been sexually harassed by anybody. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some believe that people belong to caucuses in the Yoruba
movie industry, what caucus do you belong?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I don’t belong to any caucus. I am myself. I am G-money. I
have friends, yes; loads of friends that wherever they are, even if they want
to shoot a job, they remember me. They’d say ‘okay, let’s call Bamidele Aduke’,
but I don’t belong to any caucus. If I belong to a caucus, that means I have to
be stagnant. But since I want my talent to be well exploited, it will be better
for me to move around.   <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Who do you look up to in the industry? Who are your role
models?  <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I love Funke Akindele a lot, and I do look up to her for
many reasons. She is talented, hardworking and well focused.   <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Is G-money in a relationship?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Yes, I am in a relationship. A very good one. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
How has it been?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It’s been the sweetest and most lovable relationship I have
ever been in my life. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Going into this relationship, were you not scared of your
past experiences?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At first I was scared, but at the end of the day, he gave me
hope and made me see the other side of men. I saw men in a different way with
him. He is like a father to me, and you know fathers can never hurt you. He is
my best friend who knows everything about me, and likewise, I do know a lot
about him. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
How did you guys meet?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We met through my movie, LIMA. He tried looking for me and
luckily we became friends through Facebook. One thing about me is that, I don’t
reply strangers in my inbox. You know it is hard to keep up with a lot of
messages. But that very morning, I saw his message and I replied because I was
bored. I saw he was much mature and I gave him my number and since then we have
been talking. Things I have not seen in other guys, I see in him and it changed
my life totally. I’m not really into church as such but he made me believe in
God again. He also made me realise the importance of going to church. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
You have a son from your previous relationship, what is his
relationship like with your son?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He has been a very good father to him. He has always seen
Juwon as his own, and my son loves him too. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Is wedding bell ringing soon?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Yes, by the grace of God. I have loads of hopes because my
heart chose him. I want to remain with him for the rest of my life.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
 How do you handle
your male fans?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I handle them so calmly and I don’t give very wrong
impression to them. My fans are wonderful people and I respect them a lot. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Would you act naked for $10 million dollars?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
(Laughs) It’s quite tempting but I won’t, because of my son
and because of my family background. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What’s the greatest advice your mum gave you?<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Always be satisfied with whatever you have. And she has
always been like that. She is not the materialistic type and I am not
materialistic either.</div>

struggling at the time with various problems. The result meant Rodgers had
presided over the club’s worst start since 1962-63 and his team would finish in
seventh – one place and two points below Everton. Nevertheless, it went down as
a notable away victory for Arsenal.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">

team back to Anfield for a fixture laced with significance in the fight for
Champions League qualification, is its rarity value. Since that day, Arsenal

considered to make up the Big Six with them – Manchester United, Manchester

Wenger’s team could tough out a major win in the backyard of a title contender.
The statement has gone on to lose its sheen. Over the past five seasons,
including this one, Arsenal have secured some honourable draws on their league
travels to the Big Six but have taken some bad beatings – most recently <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/feb/04/chelsea-arsenal-premier-league-match-report" title=""><span style="color: blue; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">the morale-shattering 3-1 loss against Chelsea</span></a> on

If Liverpool are experiencing the first pronounced downturn of the Jürgen Klopp
era, with all of the soul-searching that entails, then Arsenal’s angst has an
all-too-familiar feel. <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/feb/15/bayern-munich-arsenal-champions-league-last-16-first-leg-match-report" title=""><span style="color: blue; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">The 5-1 loss at Bayern Munich</span></a> in the
first leg of the Champions League last 16 on 15 February merely deepened the
negative preconceptions about Wenger’s team.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

attempt to inspire a boost and his buzzwords during the week have been
“freedom” and “belief”. In short, they have been lacking from many of the
important away days in recent seasons. Wenger has to see them return at
Anfield.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="color: #5e5e5e; font-family: "Helvetica","sans-serif"; font-size: 11.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">“We lost at Everton and City [in December] after being 1-0 up
and it was because we were not proactive after we went ahead – we were too
passive,” Wenger said. “After that, we lost at Chelsea under special
circumstances a little bit [Wenger disputed Chelsea’s opener] but I agree that
we didn’t look like we played with enough freedom or the belief that we would
just turn up and do it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">

for me now is the attitude to just go for it – to go and take. What is linked
many times with belief is a passive mode and not enough proactivity. You have
to make things happen. It is always a mindset. How do I bring it out in the
players? By making them conscious of it.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">

the need for defensive solidity and it has surely not been lost on him that
each of the three away wins over Big Six rivals since 2012‑13 have featured
clean sheets. The one at City was marked by an unusually defensive approach.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to express themselves and it was in this context that the discussion turned to
his artist-in-residence, Mesut Özil, who has been off-colour in recent weeks.
“I think confidence plays a part,” Wenger said. “If you want to park the bus,
then you lose Özil. He is a guy who needs possession. With possession, he is a
marvellous player.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

since his heel injury in October, which is set to rule him out for the season.
“Özil has suffered a lot from the loss of Cazorla,” Wenger said. “Cazorla can
get out of pressure in deep midfield; he gets the ball played through to a
player who is higher up and then Özil, with the ball at the right moment, can
always do damage. But I don’t want to make this a debate about one player. It’s
not Özil alone who will win us the game.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Residents of Hausa Quarter in Makurdi, the Benue State
capital, are yet to grapple the circumstances that propelled a 20-year-old
pregnant housewife to take the life of her stepdaughter, whose mother had
separated from her husband before he married her.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sunday Sun gathered that the victim, Khadija Abdulrahman,
aged three, was abducted from her grandmother’s room about 9pm on the ill-fated
day two weeks ago, by her stepmother, Hadiza Mohammed, but later found dead in
an uncompleted building close to the bank of the River Benue.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Her stepmother, who is suspected to have perpetrated the
gruesome act, is said to be four months pregnant and presently in police
custody, assisting homicide detectives in their investigations. Sources at the
Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) admitted said she has admitted to
committing the crime.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Elder brother of the deceased’s father, Jemilu Abdulahi,
told Sunday Sun that though his brother had about three years ago, divorced his
first wife and married Hadiza two years later, he had earlier this year
reconciled with Khadija’s mother and was planning to take her back. This, he
said, didn’t go down well with Hadiza.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Narrating in tears how the little girl was abducted and
murdered, he alleged that the step-mum from hell committed the abominable act
because she got wind of her husband’s plan to take back his estranged first
wife.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
His account: “Based on what people at home told me, my
brother’s wife came to the family house on the invitation of my mother who
wanted to settle a misunderstanding between her and her husband. On her
arrival, she pretended to go and pray inside a room where the girl was, took
her away and didn’t come back with her; but unknown to her, somebody saw her
while she left with the baby.“After about three hours, the suspect appeared and
when asked about the girl, she said she did not know her whereabouts and
claimed to have gone to our neighbour’s room to watch television. The neighbour
said she was only there for a few minutes and left.” Jemilu added that efforts
to prevail on her that night to disclose the whereabouts of the girl proved
abortive, as she refused to own up to the crime until Khadija’s lifeless body
was found in an uncompleted building. He alleged that a close observation of
the scene of crime indicated that her assailant might have used a hijab to
strangle the young girl.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Noting that vengeance is for God, he said the family is not
interested in pursuing the case, but demands that Islamic justice prevailed.
“We are not interested in the case because we know that we will only suffer
ourselves to go to court, but will not get justice in the end.  What we are asking is that as Muslims,
everything has judgment. If anyone takes the life of another person, the best
thing is for him or her to be killed or her family would pay a very huge amount
of money which I know that Hadiza’s parents cannot afford.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Also commenting, the Sarkin Hausawa, superintending over
affairs of the Hausa community in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State,
Alhaji Rayanu Sangami, said once the girl’s corpse was recovered, Hadiza was
held and taken before him, during which she confessed to the crime in the
presence of leaders of the community.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sangami noted that but for his swift action, supported by
leaders of the community, angry youths in the area would have stoned the
suspect to death. “She confessed to the crime and we had a hard time preventing
the angry youths from stoning her to death. We had to quickly invite the police
who came and took her into detention. This is the first time this kind of
incident is happening in our community and we are not taking it lightly,” he
stressed, wondering why a Muslim woman would take life as a result of envy over
marriage when the Islamic religion permits a man to marry as many as four
wives.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
 He described the act
as a very serious offence that required a serious action, disclosing that he is
in the process of organizing Imams for a ward by ward preaching and prayers to
forestall a reoccurrence, just as he urged the security agencies, government
and the judiciary, to do justice to the case.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Confirming her arrest, the Benue State police command said
the suspect would face the full wrath of the law, on completion of
investigation.  Deputy Commissioner of
Police, DCP Adat Ududo, who spoke with Sunday Sun described the act as wicked.
He hinted that the suspect had already been arraigned in court, assuring that
the law would take its course.“Individuals are very bad and wicked. Jeremiah
17:9-10 says the heart of a man is very wicked. People should be good and the
community will be peaceful. The police are not happy to see this kind of crime.
The law will certainly take its course in this. It is annoying. The woman is
already in court to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sadly, the suspect was unrepentant when Sunday Sun
correspondent encountered her. While affirming her displeasure with her
husband’s plan to reunite with his estranged first wife, she claimed the
deceased suddenly disappeared and was later found dead, when she visited the
family house to honour her mother-in-law’s invitation.“I went into my
mother-in-law’s room to pray around 7pm on that day, and then left to our
neighbour’s house. When I came back around 9pm, they said I took the girl away
and I said I didn’t. I even joined them in search for the girl till about 2am,
before I went back to my parent’s house to sleep. The next morning, they said
they had found her corpse and accused me of killing her.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Asked if she indeed, committed the crime, she queried in
Pidgin English:”my husband say na me kill the girl, so, wetin una want me to
talk again?”</div>
